Jacksboro Highway

‘After the collapse collection’ Book 4

Luke came to Flockton after the post-collapse chaos had settled down. Most people there were, well, wet. But peaceful. And as one of the six Federated Villages Flockton was set up for a bright future. That was just what he needed. He’d had his fill both of war and being the guy who always stood up to scrotes and scumbags. He’d never do that again. Luke had vowed never to forget how the self-righteous suits had punished him for protecting the innocent. In any case, ferals and villains were almost extinct now, so they said anyway.

Luke made a comfortable living supplying Flockton with wild meat and game. He thought he was content, that his post collapse life was as good as it was ever going to get. Then he met Hera. Best thing that ever happened to him.

So when the worst predator he’d ever encountered set up a casino, brothel, drug den and who knew what else just outside the trade zone and proceeded to threaten, beat up, fleece and extort the villagers, Luke wasn’t going to stick his sheepdog’s nose in again only to have it bitten off. Not by the wolf but the ungrateful, deluded sheep. Let the so-called leaders sort it out.

The start of the world

‘After the collapse collection’ Book 1

Surviving the collapse was the easy part. The real danger came afterwards.

Mac survived the end of the world - by accident. Only to end up no better than a slave on Ricky’s commune, with long term survival prospects of zero. Back in the old world, he had gingerly navigated life by being polite and nice.

The commune’s leader Ricky is a paranoid, controlling, ex-soldier. His one strong point is violence, which his minions might consider bearable if he only used it against their enemies on the farm next door. Ricky hasn’t got a clue about survival, farming, leadership or anything that the ragged band of survivors actually need. What’s the point, he thinks. None of them will make it through the year. Even if a few stretch it out a little longer, starvation will eventually pick them off one by one. Ricky intends to be last.

Mac has an uncomfortable feeling that being nice isn’t going to cut it anymore. Others are looking at him hoping he’s the one with something about him, anything, whatever it will take to lead them away from slow death and toward not just survival but long term success. The very idea of taking charge leaves Mac cold – but it’s obvious someone has got to step up. And there’s nobody else.
